19 Jul In the Studio: Recording My First Solo Album

Next week, I am heading back to the beautiful Studios La Buissonne near Avignon in the South of France to record my very first solo piano album.

I had known about this special studio for a long time, but last year was the first time I actually recorded there during the sessions for The Songbird Sang—a project with Magic Malik, Brice Soniano, and Toma Gouband. I completely fell in love with the studio, its atmosphere, and the amazingly beautiful grand piano. Working with engineer Gerard de Haro really stayed with me, and it felt like the perfect place to return to for this next adventure. Over the last few years, I have been performing more and more solo concerts across Europe, including a recent performance at the Edinburgh Jazz & Blues Festival. Being alone on stage has brought a new kind of freedom and space. It gives an enormous amount of flexibility to follow the flow of the music wherever it may lead, allowing the state of being in the moment to shape the music as much as possible. Since no other musicians are involved, there is no need to predefine or arrange things in advance. Instead, there is just the beautiful challenge, and necessity, of orchestrating all the different elements yourself.

After all these live experiences, it feels like the right moment to step into the studio and document this music. The sessions will be a mix of original compositions, improvisations, textures, little sketches, and perhaps a few jazz standards.

The solo album will be released in 2027 on Astropi Music. I am really looking forward to sharing this next step with you. Stay tuned for updates from the studio next week!
